Training customers and field installers on complex automation and smart-device products — moving from costly classrooms to mobile, video-first learning.
Robotic process automation is a relatively new concept, and Automation Anywhere wanted to train their customers on the product — highlighting what it can do, and how it saves time, effort and reduces inefficiencies. Until then the client had trained customers in classrooms and webinars; the online learning component sought to cut down on the time, money and effort involved. The training was designed to embrace the customer and take them along on the journey of discovering and utilizing the automation platform.
The courses needed to walk a fine line between educating the customer and explaining the efficiencies that arise from process automation, cognitive automation and analytics. They were built to allow user-toggling between self-paced and classroom work. Contemporary graphics sustained interest in the subject matter, while creative copy guided by strong pedagogy and instructional design was the hallmark — complex content, creatively presented.
EcoFactor is an energy management and efficiency company, delivering superior savings and an integrated consumer experience across mobile, web and thermostat. Their smart-thermostat installation is a complicated product that necessitated hands-on training.
The client was sending teams to conduct in-classroom training at multiple locations across the country. The result was cash burn, time wastage, and resources stretched to the maximum — with no follow-up mechanism to confirm the training’s effectiveness until installers were already on site.
We designed a unique, video-heavy mobile solution that demonstrated the product installation step by step, with software checks that ensured the installation could not proceed if something went wrong. The course was accessible across multiple mobile devices for installers on the go, and maintained a backlink with the datacenter to verify the correctness of each installation.
Client reliance on in-classroom training reduced approximately 50% in the month the course launched, with greater reductions in the following months. The result: considerable cost and resource savings, plus future-proofing the course with cutting-edge technology — ensuring a high ROI on the training investment.
This project is a prime example of custom eLearning development paired with a mobile learning strategy that meets learners where they are.
